Antoine « toni » munoz. B valencia 1915. D france 2008. I have small collection of these postcard sized oil paintings. I love their enthusiasm and vitality, their confident strokes and strong colours. A wonderful mix of naivety and sophistication. Most of them are signed toni and all are oil on primed plywood. They date between the 1960’s and 1980’s. I’ve discovered a little about toni. He was born antoine munoz in valencia, spain, around 1915. He fled the franco regime in the late 1930’s and, along with thousands of his compatriots, settled in france. After the war he became a truck driver. On these journeys he carried with him oil paints and brushes and pre-primed small rectangles of plywood. During his breaks he painted his surroundings. At home he also painted, but usually copies taken from books of his favorites artists; often pissarro. All the works i’ve seen are the same format: approximately 16cm X 12cm. He died around 2008.
