Lustre Atomic Age by Kalmar Franken KG, model RS 14 HL, Austria 1970

Produced in the early 1970s by Kalmar Franken KG in Austria, this 14-arm chandelier is a retro-futuristic homage to the space age of the 1950s with a touch of disco glamour. Unlike the "Atomic" series, produced around the same time and featuring chrome frames with opaque glass spheres, the "RS" series showcases polished aluminium and transparent bubble glass, offering a more textured appearance. The "RS 14 HL" is suspended from the ceiling by two cables and can be adjusted in height. The arms of the chandelier are positioned diagonally relative to the central axis, and 14 bulbs (E14 40W) shine at the end of each arm. The bubble glass spheres are hand-blown and have a diameter of 12 cm. This chandelier is in very good condition with only slight signs of age. Kalmar's visionary light fixtures are icons of mid-century modern design, and the company is still recognised today for its excellent craftsmanship. This chandelier is certainly part of that legacy.
