In 1960, the Eames Office of Charles and Ray Eames was commissioned by Time Inc. to design the interiors of three entrance halls at the Rockefeller Center in New York. In addition to the complete transformation of the interior layout, this project also led to the creation of the very comfortable Lobby Chairs as well as a series of stools made from solid walnut. Charles and Ray Eames are among the most important design figures of the 20th century. Their work encompasses furniture design, film and photography production, as well as exhibition design. Vitra is the only company authorised to manufacture their products for Europe. Their understated and timeless aesthetic allows for a seamless integration into a variety of settings, from those inspired by brutalist architecture to contemporary chalets or reimagined industrial lofts.
