Venetian-style wall console in painted and gilded wood.

Antique wall console in carved wood, painted and gilded, in the style of 18th-century Venice. Original piece, never restored, with all its patina. What distinguishes it from usual small wall consoles is its height of 80 centimetres, making it a true entrance console, and its very slender single leg that extends nearly 55 centimetres to the floor. The scalloped top features a remarkably preserved hand-painted decoration: a large central diamond formed by tiles arranged diagonally, alternating between reddish-brown and almond green, each square adorned with a rosette or a small flower painted in ochre, red, and cream. The pattern is engraved into the wood before being painted. Wide brown frame highlighted with a green scalloped frieze. Curved water-green belt scattered with small gilded rosettes, bordered with gilded mouldings, featuring scrolls and shells carved at the corners. Gilded and patinated leg ending in a rolled scroll. Dimensions: width 60 centimetres, depth 30 centimetres, height 80 centimetres. Condition: wear, paint chips, losses of gilding and gesso, small cracks, consistent with age and visible in the photos. Structure is sound. Wall-mounted. The dating has not been subject to expertise. Ideal for an entrance or corridor, it takes up almost no floor space.
