French 19th-century oval mirror in gold leaf with a pediment.

Beautiful example of an antique oval mirror in gold leaf in the Louis XVI style with a pediment, made in France around 1880. The frame of the mirror is decorated with an elegant upper ornament in the shape of a basket filled with fruits and ears of corn. This beautiful antique French gilded mirror retains its original glass and wooden back. The gold leaf gilding, with a subtle red underlayer (bole), gives a warm hue to the golden colour. Small marks, chips, and cracks, consistent with its age, can be observed up close and contribute to its authentic character. The frame is in good structural condition. The bevelled mirror is in very good antique condition, adding a touch of refined charm to any space. Dimensions: H 114 cm X W 80 cm X D 5 cm. Materials: Glass, gesso & wood. Provenance: France.
