Abstract painting "Venice" by Monique Breton-Prouté, known as Pehem. France, 1970. Monique Breton-Prouté, known as "Pehem, " was a French artist (1933–2024), a painter and, above all, a printmaker (etching, aquatint, linocut, lithography). Her work is documented by a catalogue raisonné (Caroline Corribras, 2012) and referenced at the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF); her prints regularly appear at auction and in specialized galleries. Recurring subjects include landscapes, urban scenes, nudes, and stylized compositions, characterized by a legible graphic style and strong contrasts. She signed her work "Pehem." This abstract composition, inspired by Venice, features overlapping planes and vertical/horizontal rhythms evoking facades, reflections, and the lagoon. The nuanced palette plays with contrasts of light and water. The texture creates reliefs and transparencies for a sensitive, contemporary, and decorative interpretation. Signed artwork, ready to hang, ideal for living room, entrance or office for a poetic and modern touch.
