Exceptional Art Deco display cabinet / bookcase dating from circa 1928–1934, most likely made in Poland or elsewhere in Central Europe. The symmetrical façade is veneered in beautifully figured wood, most likely Caucasian walnut, contrasted with genuine Macassar ebony. The distinctive dark-striped Macassar is used in the geometric inlays of the lower doors, the central vertical details and, most impressively, on the rounded front corners, where the veneer creates striking alternating dark and golden-brown bands. The sides are finished in oak veneer, while the sculptural architectural feet are made from solid oak. A particularly remarkable feature is the pair of tall glazed doors. Each glass panel is decorated with an elaborate cut and polished Art Deco motif combining a radiating palm-like form, long geometric lines and a diamond lattice pattern. The mirrored decoration gives the façade a highly distinctive and elegant appearance. Inside, the cabinet offers several broad wooden shelves resting on fixed wooden support rails attached to the side walls. Traditional inset locks, key escutcheons and a key are preserved. The cabinet has undergone a comprehensive restoration and is ready for use. An impressive and rare statement piece, ideal as a display cabinet for porcelain, glassware or ceramics, a bookcase, collector’s cabinet or drinks cabinet. Period: c. 1928–1934. Origin: Central Europe, probably Poland. Style: Art Deco. Condition: Fully restored. Materials: Caucasian walnut veneer, Macassar ebony, oak veneer, solid oak, decorative cut glass.
