Small coffee table or chair, Lola Mundo combines several functions in a single piece of furniture. Published by Driade in 1988, it shows some signs of use. Otherwise, it is in very good condition. There is no signature as is customary with Starck. You can watch the video for the bibliography and find the chair on Starck's official website. Philippe Starck describes it as follows: "A small coffee table, it becomes a chair when opened. I wanted to see if we could create an object that works with an 18th-century typology and a somewhat whimsical idea. It's less about citations than the desire to intertwine: it's culturally unidentifiable. The pink rubber nipples? They needed to be soft, even if only symbolically. The graphic play is complemented by industrial play: the seat and backrest are made in the same mould." Lola Mundo thus reflects several characteristics of Philippe Starck's design. It summarises different functions in a single piece of furniture to save space. It surprises by mixing materials and genres, while not forgetting the demands of industrial production for economic reasons. And above all, it illustrates the ease with which Philippe Starck, playing with trends, styles, and conventions, allows his objects to tell the story of his own whims, desires, fantasies, magic, and imagination.
