black stoneware carafe / vase, France 1950

Hand-turned ceramic jug. Bulbous silhouette, with a generously curled high handle. Deep brown-black glaze with metallic bronze and violet reflections depending on the light. Mastered firing typical of post-war pottery workshops. Beautiful sculptural presence, both as a functional piece and as a decorative object on a table or as a vase for floral arrangements. Very good overall condition, with some micro-blemishes in the glaze visible up close, typical of artisanal firing and manual work. No cracks or incidents. Dimensions: H20 X W15 X D20 (with handle).
