Stool chest fisherman's seat

Delightful stool fisherman's chest, probably from the 60s, in wood and red skaï, with fine and elaborate closing latches. It has three compartments, the upper two of which are themselves compartmentalized, and can easily be diverted into a sewing box. When he arrived in my studio, I thought that everything was to be redone, his condition was not very engaging ! Crumbled filling foam, hence a deformed skai, also very dirty, an absent latch. But after a thorough cleaning and a relaxation of the skaï, it already looked prouder! So I decided not to change the skaï, I opened it from the back and simply reinserted a new foam. I put the nails back and added the missing nails. The missing latch was in the trunk, I re-released it in place. And the skai (originally) has returned to a normal shape and acceptable flexibility. I passed a light coat of varnish. So you have here an authentic fisherman's chest with almost all the original elements, even a sticker that I chose to leave in place. Nevertheless, there are traces of his age and the patina of time and use. On the skaï: some dark spots not too visible, some "deformations" not important (which will perhaps disappear over time?), a scratch and a small lack (not crossing), the corners are slightly damaged (folds of the skaï), the metal parts have a little corrosion, a little more on the two side parts that held the shoulder strap (on request, I can provide you with the shoulder strap but it is dirty, damaged and rusty). On the wooden chest, some gaps on the veneer, including the largest at the bottom right, and obviously a lot of traces, marks and various stains. Inside, I painted the bottom of the large compartment gray because it had indelible stains. It is 37 cm high, 38 cm wide, 26 cm deep. It weighs about 3.3 kg.
