Elegant stoneware vase signed Méténier, made in the first half of the 20th century, probably between the 1920s and 1940s, within the family workshop in Gannat in the Allier. The piece stands out with a harmonious silhouette featuring double handles, inspired by reinterpreted antique forms in a modernist spirit. The generous belly is adorned with a subtly ribbed vertical decoration, highlighted by remarkable glazing work. The contrast between the powder pink base and the deep black drips creates a typical flamed effect of French art stoneware from this period. Each piece is unique, with nuances and variations in material contributing fully to its character. Hand-signed under the base. This vase perfectly illustrates the craftsmanship of the Méténier workshops, known for their research on glazes and their forms that are both simple and expressive. Ideal as a centrepiece, alone or accompanied, in a contemporary, wabi-sabi, or 1930s-inspired interior. Height: 22 cm. Width: 19 cm. Overall good condition. Please note a slight chip at the heel, discreet and without impact on the stability or aesthetics of the piece.
