Throne chair in solid oak, renaissance

About 400 years old, almost two metres high and with an impressive yet understated appearance. This Renaissance throne chair in solid oak probably dates from the late 16th or early 17th century. There is a spacious storage chest hidden under the seat. Chairs of this type were used at church ceremonies and official events, and later in the great halls of country houses. The wooden pegs and deep warm patina testify to a largely authentic piece. The seat hinges were added later, probably in the 19th century. Monumental, sober and full of character: a sculptural statement for a large hall or living room.
