Pair of sculptural rattan armchairs from the 1960s–1970s. These armchairs stand out with a sculptural silhouette, seemingly suspended above the ground. Their enveloping curves rest on dark wooden slanted legs, whose discretion gives these generous volumes an unexpected lightness. The strands of rattan contour the volumes and create an almost topographical design. This interplay of lines gives a graphic presence to the material and enhances the sculptural character of the whole. Their design is part of the explorations around post-war rattan furniture, when artisanal bending and assembly techniques accompanied the exploration of freer and more organic forms. Their design bears a strong resemblance to a model marketed under the name Vivai del Sud, an Italian brand associated with a decorative universe blending natural materials and enveloping shapes. However, the attribution of this pair remains undocumented. In an interior, their assertive profile allows them to be considered as two sculptural pieces as well as relaxation seats. Their warm hue interacts with stone, light coatings, or understated textiles; their lines also find their place alongside modernist furniture and contemporary pieces. To be arranged in pairs in a living room or separately, leaving their sides and backs visible. Dimensions of each armchair: height 94 cm — width 54 cm — total depth 90 cm. Seat height at the highest point: 43 cm. Good used condition, with patina, wear, and minor finish wear on the rattan, particularly at the edges. Marks and superficial chips on the wooden legs.
