Set of two deceptive pitchers in earthenware. Work twentieth century. The smallest is made of malicorne earthenware, openwork in lattice, floral decoration and on the rumen the inscription: "drink I want it but know how to place your hand". 13 X 13 cm. The second, larger is a blue camaieu earthenware, with openwork decoration of hearts, and the inscription on the rumen: "to drink guess the secret". 16.5 X 14 cm. In the past, potters used to bring their bowl and pitcher of wine to the workshop. Some tired of seeing their beverage decrease from hour to hour to the passages of their colleagues a small drop here, a small goulée there developed these famous deceptive pitchers. Less easy now to drink the neighbor's wine! The principle of these system pitchers, of astonishing complexity, is however simple: a hollow handle, connected to an equally hollow bead, provided that the right holes are plugged. The first deceptive pitchers date from the second part of the sixteenth century. The majority is formed of earthenware pieces of "great fire" of the eighteenth century and those of the nineteenth century are in glazed earth. Each of these pitchers offers an interesting technical and aesthetic particularism, the originality of their design, the quality of their ornamental motifs testify to the imagination, virtuosity and delicacy of our craftsmen and ceramic artists.
