Breton pitcher Henriot Quimper Breton decoration no. 139 circa 1925-1935

A faience jug from Quimper decorated with a profile portrait of a Breton woman, an emblematic iconography of Breton ceramic tradition. The scene is set within a medallion surrounded by floral friezes and very graphic geometric patterns blending cobalt blue, orange ochre, yellow, and brown red, a vibrant palette characteristic of regionalist productions from the early 20th century. The drawing of the character, deliberately simple and expressive, fits within the decorative aesthetic developed in Quimper during the interwar period, when manufacturers celebrated popular Breton themes. The piece bears the handwritten inscription "Henriot Quimper 139", an interesting detail: the signature is placed under the handle rather than under the base, an uncommon arrangement that reflects a still very artisanal production. Several stylistic and technical elements allow us to date this jug to around 1925-1935: handwritten signature associated with a decoration number, hand-painted decoration with free strokes, upper rim in characteristic speckled blue of productions from the first half of the 20th century, and a turned base revealing the unglazed beige clay. The presence of the number 3 embedded under the base. In good vintage condition, with fine natural cracks in the glaze and chips on the rim (see photos). Height 14 cm, width at the spout handle 14 cm, base diameter 6 cm, widest diameter of the container 10 cm. Capacity approximately 75 cl. Authentic and full of character, perfect for enriching a collection of Breton faiences or adding a touch of history to a kitchen or dining table.
