Martin Visser, the Dutch modernist of 't Spectrum

Martin Visser (1922-2009) is one of the great Dutch designers of the post-war era. Furniture director at Bijenkorf in Amsterdam, then designer at 't Spectrum, he signed in the 1960s and 70s furniture of perfect geometric rigour: SZ02 modular sofas, BR03 beds with tubular steel structures, black leather armchairs. His language, halfway between minimalism and late Bauhaus, has established him as one of the most coherent Dutch designers of his generation, whose work is now widely reassessed.

The SZ02 sofa and BR03 bed from 't Spectrum remain Martin Visser's signature pieces. Dutch vintage furniture to find for those wanting Dutch modernist rigour, still very accessible.
