Alain Richard, discreet modernist elegance

Alain Richard (1926-2017) belongs to that generation of French designers trained at the École Boulle who rebuilt domestic furniture after the war. A founding member of the Atelier de Recherches Plastiques with Pierre Guariche, René-Jean Caillette and Joseph-André Motte, he signed for thirty years for publishers Meubles TV, Pierre Disderot, Steiner and Meurop sideboards, bookshelves, tables and lamps of rare geometric precision. A confidential body of work, today rediscovered for what it is: great French modernist design.
