Gio Ponti, founder of modern Italian design

Gio Ponti (1891-1979) is the total designer who invented modern Italian design. Architect, designer, painter, writer, he founded the Domus magazine in 1928, which became the bible of world design, and signed for six decades buildings (Pirelli skyscraper in Milan), objects, furniture, cutlery. His Superleggera chair (1957), edited by Cassina, weighs 1.7 kg: an ash chair that can be lifted with a fingertip. With his Parco dei Principi hotel in Sorrento, his furniture for Singer and his glasses for Venini, he signed everything. Gio Ponti is Italy that designs.
