René Mathieu, French Lunel lighting

René Mathieu is a French designer active in the 1950s and 60s, whose lighting production for the Lunel manufactory and other Parisian publishers fits within the great post-war French modernist tradition. Articulated floor lamps, lacquered metal desk lamps, brass pendants and perforated shades: his pieces dialogue with those of Mathieu Mategot, Jacques Biny and Pierre Disderot. A little documented but recognisable signature, whose pieces are today sought by lovers of French vintage lighting.

René Mathieu floor lamps and lights for Lunel remain the designer's most identifiable pieces. French vintage lighting to find for those wanting a rare French modernist signature, in the vein of Mategot and Biny.
