Pierre Guariche, the elegant rigour of the 50s
Pierre Guariche (1926-1995) belongs to that generation of French designers trained at the École nationale des arts décoratifs who rebuilt post-war furniture. With his friend Joseph-André Motte and René-Jean Caillette, he founded the Atelier de Recherches Plastiques and signed for three decades chairs, lamps and interiors for the greatest publishers: Steiner, Airborne, Disderot, Meurop. His signature? A frugal elegance: not a stroke too many, not a material wasted, and always that touch of French modernism that doesn't fade.
The Tonneau armchair, the Tulipe chair, the G1 and G2 Cocotte lamp (designed for Disderot) have become his most iconic pieces. A French signature in its own right, to find for anyone building an interior around post-war modernism.
