Benjarong (in Thai เบญจรงค์), called also ceramic Royal, is a painted porcelain, whose name means literally "five colors", amount of shades for the traditional pieces, but this can range from 3 to 8 colors. A repetitive, geometric or floral pattern on a colored background is used for decoration. The enamelled appearance created a highlight and bring relief to the room. The manufacturing process is long and delicate, the piece being passed to the oven between each color application. Gold is also used for decoration. Originally they were exclusively reserved for imperial use. It's that recently that lovers can acquire these porcelains with the permission of the deceased King Bhumibol (Rama IX)... Manufacturing requires skill and thoroughness in the craftsman, it therefore requires a qualified work force. Also the Benjarong porcelain, due to their manufacturing and their painting technique, are considered by all of the masterpieces
