An elegant signed 1930s 1940s PEL tubular steel armchair with continuous tubular chrome horseshoe cantilever base, the steel wraps around the back and forms the armrests, upholstered in their original dark blue leatherette. The shape of the chair, frames, backrest and the piping is Art Deco. The chair is an example of British modernism influenced by Bauhaus and Art Deco and their pioneering design work in steel tube furniture. PEL worked with the top designers of the day, COX- Roland Wilton Cox, Bruno Pollack, Mart Stam, Serge Chermayoff and were commissioned to design furniture for British Broadcasting House, De La Warr Pavilion, Embassy Court Brighton, Isokon Flats Hampstead and Chermayoff House and other prestigious projects.
