This bonnetière from the 1940s embodies the best of mass-produced Art Deco: a rigorous geometry, a tall and slender silhouette, and a complete absence of superfluous ornamentation. Repainted in a soft green, it fits seamlessly into both a contemporary bedroom and an old house. Features: the bonnetière is distinguished by its door with six moulded panels arranged in a carefully structured composition: two large vertical panels at the top, a row of three small horizontal rectangles in the middle, a discreet nod to the Art Deco decorative vocabulary, and then two large vertical panels at the bottom, mirroring the top. This play of solids and voids, achieved through relief moulding, gives the door a rare graphic depth for a mass-produced piece. The base features a drawer with understated metal handles. Inside, the bonnetière offers four shelves (height not adjustable). Its tall and narrow silhouette makes it easy to place, even in small spaces. Renovation: the bonnetière has been completely sanded, treated against wood-boring insects, and then painted in Farrow & Ball's Pigeon green. Condition: heavy, solid, and stable on its feet. Dimensions: W80 X D45 X H195. Cupboard: W76.5 X D40 X H165. Spacing between the shelves from top to bottom: 42-28-28-28-31. Drawer: W65 X H12. A wardrobe that wisely avoids trying too hard. The geometry does the work, the colour does the rest. For a bedroom that wants character without shouting it.
