An elegant 48-piece mid-century modern cutlery set, model no. 2080, designed by Carl Aubock in 1957 and made by Neuzeughammer Ambosswerk, a highly regarded Austrian manufacturer that worked with renowned designers such as Carl Auböck, Helmut Alder, Oswald Haerdtl and János Megyik. Series 2080 is not easy to find, and the literature shows it only in stag horn (antler) or rosewood, so we assume this cow horn version is considerably rarer. Eight place settings, each with a dinner fork, table knife, soup spoon, dessert / cake fork, butter knife and teaspoon / dessert spoon, 48 pieces in total, serving eight people. A beautifully reduced stainless steel cutlery with slender cow horn handles in a lively, varied grain, set with discreet brass rivets. In very good condition. Most pieces look unused or hardly used, only the large forks show some signs of use, but no damages. We have professionally polished the handles, so they shine in their old glory again. Each piece is marked with the Amboss name and company logo. Together with the famous series 2060, this is our favorite cutlery by Carl Auböck. (We also have series 2060 in stock, see our other listings.) Dimensions: 6" and 7.5" long. Amboss Neuzeughammer was an Austrian manufacturer of high-quality stainless steel cutlery and tableware, known for its modernist designs from the 1950s to the 1970s. Its products are regarded as fine examples of Austrian mid-century design. Amboss was acquired by Rosenthal in 1969. Werkstätte Carl Auböck is a multigenerational design workshop. Karl Heinrich Auböck, also known as Carl Auböck I (1872–1925), established the family metal workshop and became known for finely crafted bronze objects. Carl Auböck II (1900–1957) continued the workshop and introduced modernist ideas informed by his studies at the Bauhaus, while Carl Auböck III (1924–1993), an architect and industrial designer, expanded its design vocabulary and international orientation.
