Small antique Chinese scholar's table in lacquered wood, originating from northern China, early 20th century. This furniture was intended for the study spaces of scholars, places for reflection, writing, and contemplation, where each object had to combine utility, sobriety, and balance. Low in format, this table features a rectangular top framed by an old lacquer in shades of red, brown, and ochre. The surface, deeply marked by time, offers an exceptional patina made of wear, chipping, and natural colour variations. These alterations tell a story of use and give the table an almost pictorial, lively, and vibrant quality. The front is animated by two drawers with clean lines, equipped with ring metal handles, typical of traditional Chinese furniture. They allowed for the storage of brushes, inks, seals, or documents. The solid sides and sturdy legs ensure great stability and enhance the architectural presence of the whole. The construction is deliberately simple, without superfluous ornamentation, highlighting the material, proportions, and patina. Nothing has been over-restored: the piece has retained all its authenticity. Today, this scholar's table fits perfectly as a coffee table, accent furniture, or a strong decorative element in a contemporary interior.
