Pretty bowl forming pocket trays in glazed terracotta with geometric decoration evoking peacock feathers on a cream background. Signed "r. Nicole" on the base. Frame decorated with a row of punched silver beads. Some glaze displacements and crack at the edge that justified the installation of the frame. René nicole is a swiss master potter specializing in glazed clay during the interwar period. By buying alexandre liotard's pottery in fernay-voltaire in the ain, near geneva (switzerland), he decided to modernize the savoyard style with innovative forms and decorations that preserve the ancestral technique of engobe ceramics.
