Designed in 1905 for the interior of the viennese Cabaret Fledermaus (1907-1913), the Fledermaus set is one of Hoffmann's most iconic furniture designs produced by Wittmann, that had been given sole creation authorization by Josef Hoffmann according to his original designs. Composed by two chairs (Models 728s) and a round table (Model 728T), this particular set is made of stained black beech wood and Hoffmann's pattern fabric design in both seats and underneath the table's glass top. The set pieces' accentuated geometric and modernist structures in black stained wood are beautifully complemented by the contrasting light pattern and the polished brass plate at the table's base. Both the chairs and table contain the original Wittmann labels. Provenance: Otto Zapf’s (1931-2018) private estate.
