Very beautiful zoomorphic vase with a long neck by Gilbert Valentin for the factory Les Archanges in Vallauris. It is decorated with bright enamels and matte blue and white on a grainy anthracite background. Fifties. Perfect condition Height 27cm 16cm diameter at the base Weight 0.7kg Signature engraved under the base Gilbert Valentin Les Archanges Vallauris with the logo of the workshop. By the way... Gilbert Valentin (1928-2001) The son of an art ironworker, he learned the technique of iron and wood carving. He discovered pottery in Dieulefit in 1946, took ceramics classes and did an internship at the Luneville pottery factory in 1948. It was in 1950 that he moved to Vallauris and founded the pottery of the Archangels. He exhibited in Paris, Milan, New York (1954-55), then Stuttgart, Faenza. In 1960, Jean Cocteau became president of the Archangels Club. In 1962, he exhibited his white footprints in Brussels. From 1963, he set up a workshop for iron work, in parallel with his pottery creations. He's one of the biggest names in pottery in Vallauris.
