Geo Martel egg service Desvres no. 1687 – Lambrequin decoration

Individual egg service in faience from Desvres by Géo Martel, consisting of its shaped tray and matching egg cup. Model no. 1687, the shape is particularly original: the circular tray designed to hold the egg cup extends with a wavy and cut-out section incorporating two small containers, likely intended for salt and pepper. GM decoration "Tourist Lambrequin from Desvres": deep blue and yellow lambrequins, polychrome flowers, foliage, small punctuations, and charming insects. The two containers are treated in a washed blue that beautifully reveals the brushstroke. Stamped Géo Martel + shape number. Tray: length 19 cm – width 14 cm – height 4.5 cm Egg cup: height 7 cm – diameter 4.5 cm – depth of the part receiving the egg 4 cm. In lovely vintage condition, with slight irregularities in shape, decoration, and glaze inherent to this hand-painted antique faience (see photos). A piece from Desvres that is as joyful as it is unusual, where the whimsy of the shape complements the richness of the painted decoration.
