Nicoletti — Pair of lounge chairs "Ambassador" in cream leather

This pair consists of two large lounge chairs, identifiable as the "Ambassador" model, attributed to the Italian company Nicoletti Salotti (now NicolettiHome) and dating from around 1970-80. A metal plaque bearing the signature "G. Nicoletti" as well as the publisher's monogram is present on each of the two chairs. Nicoletti Salotti belongs to the upholstered furniture sector developed around Matera and the Murgia, which became one of the main Italian hubs for leather sofas and chairs in the second half of the 20th century. The composition contrasts two registers. A very wide seat, slightly raised at the ends, contributes to an enveloping interior, while a more architecturally structured peripheral shell frames the volumes. The base opens in the centre between two side cheeks, visually lightening the generously sized seats. The cream leather unifies the soft parts and the visible supporting elements. It reduces construction contrasts in favour of a monolithic reading and facilitates the integration of the pair. The current offer for the "Ambassador" model remains scattered between a few isolated chairs and pairs occasionally available on the European market. The recorded versions generally favour dark, strong, or contrasting colours. The combination of two homogeneous chairs, each retaining its "G. Nicoletti" plaque and covered in uniform cream leather, thus constitutes a less commonly encountered configuration.
