Antique Japanese organiser with compartments and drawers, featuring a low rectangular body and two open compartments at the top—separated by dividers—above two drawers with stamped metal handles. Originating from Japan, from the early Showa era, when the Japanese home office incorporated small auxiliary pieces for organising books, paper, and tools. The organiser with open compartments and drawers is born from the logic of Japanese order: the workspace remains tidy if each tool has an identifiable place. The upper compartments kept books, envelopes, or notebooks visible; the lower drawers organised ink, seals, pens, and small coins. It was a common piece in the home office of a merchant or professional. Details. Dimensions: Length 38 cm – Depth 22 cm – Height 26 cm. Style: Traditional Japanese, early Showa. Materials and techniques: Solid wood; stamped iron handles; visible dovetail joints; oil and wax finish. Place of origin: Japan. Period: Showa era (1926–1989) Date of manufacture: Circa 1930. Condition / Observations: Good. Original patina and paint. Some marks from use. Wear consistent with age and use.
