This lithograph, “The Magic of the Hours - Twilight,” is signed Henri Rivière and bears a red stamp in the lower right corner. The work is authentic and antique. Regarding its condition, there are small stains and ink marks in the margins, and a slightly creased corner in the lower right corner. There are also small stains on the lithograph itself. The lithograph is very fresh in color; once framed, most of the imperfections will be barely visible. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career in drawing, then moved on to intaglio engraving, specifically etching, in 1882. Simultaneously, in 1886, he embarked on a career as a director and set designer, creating shadow puppet shows at the Chat Noir cabaret, performances which he enhanced by designing highly innovative, colorful sets. He then devoted himself exclusively to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted approximately a thousand watercolors).
