Desk lamp IKA LBL Kandem modernist Bauhaus Marianne Brandt 1930 industrial glass steel

Desk lamp ika lbl type 03 4.4. Black lacquered aluminium arms. Moulded tinted glass base with dark brown bakelite underside cowling. Elliptical section reflector in dark brown bakelite – matt aluminium grey painted interior. Articulated arm and reflector with bakelite ball joints. E27 socket, power 60 watts. Integrated push switch on the base with original dark brown bakelite nut. Dimensions: height 46 cm; length 40 cm; width 15 cm; reflector diameter 19.5 cm. Weight: 1.5 kg. Manufacturer: installationen kabel und apparate (ika) leuchtenbau leipzig (lbl), leipzig. Production period: 1952. Ika lbl was a conglomerate of german manufacturers producing household electrical accessories after the war, from 1948 to 1953. Having recovered part of the production tools as well as the remaining stocks of the manufacturer kandem (körting & mathiesen), the company will manufacture luminaires in the style of kandem productions. The design of this model 03 4.4 lamp is close to that of pre-war kandem desk lamps: the reflector is similar to that of the 1939-1940 models although flatter, the base is a copy of the one created in 1928 by marianne brandt and hin bredendieck. The shapes, colours and materials are finely selected and assembled to give birth to a very refined lamp model in line with the bauhaus heritage. Lamp restored while preserving its history and its original patina: original bakelite and glass elements in excellent condition without breakage or cracks, original paint very slightly patinated, new electrical wiring composed of a black round cable 3 X 0.75 mm² sheathed cotton. Superb condition. Sublime model, one of the most refined and technically accomplished that we had in the workshop. See photos.
