Antique oil painting on canvas, portrait of a man, signed Y. Mercier Contart (Yvonne Mercier-Contart, 1908-2010). Dated 1940s-1950s. Portrait in half-profile of an elderly man wearing glasses and a cap. He has a few days' growth of white beard and is wearing a red garment. Predominant colors are pinkish-red, blue-gray, and yellow. Beautiful brushwork and mastery of the painter. Gilt frame with gold leaf; the red ground is visible beneath the gold leaf in places, a preparatory step before gilding. Dimensions: 42.6 x 34.7 cm. In good condition. Carefully packaged and shipped. Colors may differ slightly from the photos; we have tried our best to reproduce them.
