Chair, masterpiece of a carpenter's craftsmanship, late 19th century.

Rare master's chair demonstrating remarkable mastery of wood construction techniques, made in France at the end of the 19th century. The interest of this piece lies particularly in its particularly complex base, designed as a true reduced framework. The three main uprights are connected by a clever network of struts and diagonal crossings, forming a particularly elaborate three-dimensional construction. The multiplication of crossings, joints, and elements arranged in different planes reflects a true work of design and constructive geometry. The whole evokes an inverted framework, transforming the load-bearing structure of the chair into a genuine demonstration of craftsmanship. The backrest, composed of wooden uprights and crosspieces, extends this constructive exploration and contributes to the overall balance of the piece. The creation of such a work required great precision in the design, layout, and assembly of the various wooden parts.
