Bonbonnière chicken on its nest in blue opaline, Portieux-Vallérysthal

This sweet jar represents a sky blue hen sitting on its royal blue woven wicker nest. It is made of moulded opaline, in the tradition of the fairground opalines from the Lorraine glassworks of Portieux and Vallérysthal, to which it is attributed. These boxes were sold at fairs and popular markets. They were used to hide sweets, sugared almonds, or small chocolates shaped like eggs. The model, with its careful details, shows the head turned, the tail raised, and the eggs under the wings. It is in perfect condition, without any chips, and has a beautiful colour sheen. The edge of the basket reveals a lovely translucent turquoise. Dimensions: H 12 X W 15 X D 12 cm. To be placed on a table, sideboard, or shelf.
