Old frame for glass painting, reverse painting, fixed under glass, painted directly on the glass of Saint Eligius of Noyon, Saint Eligius. Bishop of Noyon, French goldsmith and coin maker. Size: 31.5 cm in height and 24 cm in width. Size of the painted area: 25 cm in height and 17 cm in width. Eligius, a simple blacksmith, set up on his own and hung a sign at his door that read, "Eligius, master of masters, master of all," considering that this "master of all" was a challenge to heavenly power, Jesus Christ resolved to give Eligius a good lesson in humility. Christ dressed as a simple and poor blacksmith and came to ask for work at Eligius's workshop. Jesus forged an iron much better than Eligius's. Having seen a horse waiting to be shod, Jesus cut off its leg, placed it on the anvil, put on the iron, then reattached the leg to the horse, which seemed to notice nothing. In anger, Eligius accepted this challenge, cut off another leg of the horse, and prepared to put on an iron. But this time, the horse bled and neighed in pain; Jesus miraculously stopped the bleeding before putting the leg back in place. Eligius capitulated, took his hammer, and broke his sign, saying: "Whoever you are, you are the master, and I am the apprentice." Christ said: "Blessed is he who humbles himself." Eligius finally understood who he was dealing with and prostrated himself. Feel free to check all my listings. Careful shipping with bubble wrap.
