Period: c. 1880-1920. This superb cobalt blue earthenware jug is decorated with very fine and detailed arabesque patterns, applied with gold paint and enamel. These patterns make up the upper and lower friezes. The border is finished with a frieze of beads, adding to the high-quality appearance of this item. The jug has a large square handle and is a practical size for modern use. This piece is typical of the Victorian/Napoleon III periods of the late 19th century in England and France. There are no manufacturer marks, but it resembles pieces made by Gibson & Son in England or Keller & Guerin of Lunéville, France. Condition: good. Usable. Minor signs of use and age. A small flaw in the glaze near the base (it is not a chip). Dimensions: 21.5 cm high, 16 cm wide across the handle, 12.5 cm deep.
