Hokusai's print of The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Hokusai's best-known work and the first in his series of thirty-six views of Mount Fuji, in which the use of Prussian blue renewed the language of Japanese printmaking. The composition of the wave, a synthesis of traditional Japanese printmaking and Western "perspective," earned it immediate success in Japan, and later in Europe, where it was one of the sources of inspiration for the Impressionists. Several museums hold copies, such as the Guimet Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum, and the Bibliothèque nationale de France; they generally come from the great private collections of Japanese prints formed in the 19th century. Format 42.5x30cm. High-quality paper. Premium matte white finish. 250g/m2. Other posters available...
