Jean Lurçat (1892-1966) Jean Lurçat (1892-1966) was a French painter, ceramicist, and creator, best known for completely renovating the art of tapestry in the 20th century. The title of the work: The Owl of Good Hope. This lithograph is part of the book ‘Animal Geography’ published in 1948. The owl occupies a central and emblematic place in Jean Lurçat's bestiary. A nocturnal bird, it symbolises for him hidden wisdom, knowledge, and mystery. Lurçat expresses himself in beautiful illustrated books such as Animal Geography, The Fabulous Bestiary, and My Domains, which include a large part of the poems from an imaginary bestiary featuring, for example: the moon carp, the Persian octopus, or the bull-mermaid of Aden... These are animals that could have existed. It bears a signature at the bottom left. The lithograph has been framed with a paper tab that highlights the quality of the lithograph, and the mount has been changed. A museum board has been placed on the back to prevent any potential foxing and pests. Ready to be hung.
