Pair of Gien dishes model Barbizon, hand-painted floral decoration, 1930s-40s.

A pair of oval serving dishes in Gien earthenware, from the famous Barbizon model, recognisable by its delicately hand-painted floral decoration and subtly crackled glazing. Each dish is adorned in the centre with a deep burgundy floral motif enhanced by green foliage, treated with a beautiful freedom of brushwork. The rim is highlighted by a frieze of stylised leaves in wine tones, elegantly framing the piece and giving it a soft and refined decorative presence. The ivory background, animated by a regular ancient crackle, brings all the charm of time and testifies to careful traditional production. The reverse bears the stamp Gien – France – Barbizon – hand-painted, confirming quality French craftsmanship. In good vintage condition, with usage cracks and signs of age consistent with the charm of these pieces, there are two hairline cracks on the underside of one of the dishes (see photos). Length 20cm, width 14cm. Ideal for a contemporary cottage table, a reimagined country house atmosphere, or an interior with a slow decor aesthetic.
