Old Provençal kneading trough in carved wood (Maie)
Authentic Provençal kneading trough (or maie) made of solid wood, mounted on a low base connected by a stretcher. This traditional regional piece of furniture was once used for the making and storing of bread. The trapezoidal front is distinguished by a very lovely relief-carved decoration, featuring a central coat of arms adorned with three fleurs-de-lis, framed by sheaves of wheat (a symbol of abundance). The top surface is removable (or hinged) and opens to reveal the original storage compartment. With its rustic appearance and timeless lines, this piece of furniture is ideal today to be repurposed as a charming console in an entrance, hallway, or living room with a chic country style. A healthy, stable, and robust piece of furniture with a superb natural wood patina.
