Decorated antique side table with elephant

A truly remarkable old side table, entirely hand-decorated. The top, edges, legs and lower shelf are covered with pokerwork and dark-coloured circle patterns, stylised flowers and geometric motifs. In the centre of the top is a simple image of an elephant. Faded stencilled letters and numbers are still visible on the underside. This is not a maker’s mark, but probably an older trade or packing print on the wood used. The table may be partly made from reused crate wood. The animal motif, the repeating circles and the warm brown-black palette give this little table a very distinctive character. A folk, almost tribal accent; lovely as a plant table, lamp table or decorative object in its own right in an eclectic interior. Dimensions: 40 cm wide, 49 cm deep, 75 cm high. Material: wood; pokerwork and hand-decorated. Period: probably first half of the 20th century. Condition: authentic, well-worn condition with signs of use, scratches, discolouration and minor damage consistent with age.
