A large star chandelier / shooting star iconic Sputnik style from the mid-century, designed by Hans Harald Rath in 1966 and produced by J. & L. Lobmeyr, Austria. This chandelier is identical to those offered by the Republic of Austria in 1966 for the opening of the new Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center, New York. Dating from the 2000s, this impressive Austrian chandelier is entirely handmade in polished brass and adorned with numerous hand-cut Swarovski crystals. It is in excellent original condition and complete. The fixture features 16 light sources and has been rewired to American standards (E12) with UL certified materials. The chandelier measures 101.6 cm in diameter, with a total height of 147.32 cm and a fixture height of approximately 55.88 cm. The suspension height can be adjusted according to specifications at no additional cost. The design is inspired by images of distant galaxies presented by the Met's architect, Edward K. Harrison.
