Superb large glazed stoneware vase from the Accolay workshops in Burgundy, belonging to the famous "Gauloise" series. This piece features an elegant hourglass silhouette, with a rounded belly at the base, a narrow waist, and a widely flared neck. Its generous and sculptural lines give it a beautiful decorative presence. Its remarkable turquoise glazing, with deep shades of petroleum blue and black, presents a finely speckled texture, rhythmically accented by subtle horizontal lines from the turning process. The variations in material and tones add a lot of depth and character to the whole. The Accolay pottery was established in Burgundy in 1944, driven by four former students of Alexandre Kostanda. Their production saw significant growth in the 1950s and 1960s, distinguished by great creative freedom, original shapes, and bold explorations of glazes. The "Gauloise" series, developed in the 1960s, gets its name from the famous blue of Gauloises cigarette packs. Inspired by ancient ceramics discovered in Burgundy, it is characterized by its decorations in shades of turquoise blue and black, which have become emblematic of the Accolay workshops. A beautiful collectible piece, representative of the inventiveness of French ceramics from the mid-20th century, particularly decorative due to its size and the intensity of its glaze. Dimensions: Height: 29.5 cm. Diameter: 18 cm. Condition: perfect condition.
