I present to you this framed oil on canvas, signed by dozinel, representing the pond of drowned children in the province of soignies, near brussels in belgium. This pond is located near the site of rouge-cloître, a school of european art. The fascinating anecdote surrounding this work lies in its title: although the pond bears this name, no child has ever been drowned there. The origin of the name comes from a linguistic confusion: in the past, a mill bordered the pond and belonged to a certain verdroncken, whose children inherited it. They called the mill "the verdroncken children's mill". A subsequent mistranslation transformed "kinderen verdroncken" into "verdronken kinderen", or "drowned children". The dimensions of the work, excluding the frame, are 101 cm X 60 cm, and with the frame, they are 128 cm X 89 cm, for a total weight of 11 kg. This piece was acquired in 1956 from a brussels gallery. The preparation for shipping will be carried out under the best conditions. Kind regards.
