Gaston Poisson, numbered 3-door sideboard, oak, oak veneer, France, 1940s Made by the French designer Gaston Poisson at the end of the Art Deco period, this sideboard is the synthesis of the designer's exceptional know-how and attention to detail. The doors are in solid oak with 2 panels with 9 diamond points and 1 panel carved with a rural scene. The base is composed of a platform on which are placed four round worked feet which hold the structure in a graceful way. The top has a geometric chevron veneer work along its entire length. The interior reveals a sophisticated arrangement of shelves and drawers also in solid oak which attract attention with remarkable details: the edges of the shelves have a wood inlay (fillet) and the drawers are assembled by dovetails which are a feat in themselves illustrating the artistic and craftsmanship mastery employed by Poisson. This sideboard, which measures 2.10m long x 1.05m high x 55cm deep, is in good condition with some legitimate marks from its time through a few micro punches, its finish certainly a little more matte than originally, its regular maintenance which has left some traces but nothing that prevents us from talking about a very beautiful piece of furniture in good condition.
