Rare pair of early 611 chairs, designed by alvar aalto & otto korhonen in 1929. These particular chairs are produced by huonekalu-ja rakennustyötehdas oy turku in the 1930s and were imported by finmar. The finmar labels are gone, but the holes for the metal plate are still visible (see the last photo). Aalto stands as the creator, but the chair is a product and a symbol of the close cooperation between the manufacturer otto korhonen (who was the owner of huonekalu-ja) and the designer aalto who first met in 1928. The design of the stacking chair was actually an improved version of a stackable chair that korhonen had created a few years earlier. Korhonen had placed the seat of an ordinary chair on top of legs extending to the sides which made it possible to stack the chair, after aalto and korhonen met in 1928 aalto developed the prototype into an object that was more proportionate, aesthetic and commercial. This design is one of the earliest furniture designs by alvar aalto. The chairs are made of black lacquered birch wood and still have their original paint. They are in good original condition with a beautiful patine. They are sturdy and don't have wood damages. Just some loss of lacquer as visible in the photos.
