Thonet Chairs No. 14

Four Thonet bistro chairs, model number 14. The caning is in perfect condition. Date of manufacture: approximately 1920-1930. The wood of one of the chairs is damaged (see last photo). Made of bent beechwood stained mahogany red or deep red. A very common finish in the 1920s and 1930s, particularly for the French and Central European markets. Note: The Thonet factories located in Bystřice pod Hostýnem (formerly in Moravia, Austro-Hungarian Empire) became Czech. From this period onward, the labels changed to read: "Thonet – Made in Czechoslovakia." This corresponds to the period between 1919 and approximately 1940.
