Set of 2 folding chairs SE 18, designed by German architect Egon Eiermann in 1952. Originally created for communal spaces such as auditoriums and churches, the chair is celebrated for its ingenious combination of functionality and elegance. Made of solid beech wood and molded beech veneer, the SE 18 is lightweight yet sturdy, with a folding mechanism that allows for compact storage without compromising its structural integrity. The significance of the SE 18 in design history was solidified when it was included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in 1953, attesting to its innovative design. Eiermann's work was also prominently featured at the Brussels World Expo in 1958, further enhancing its international recognition. The chairs have been fully restored to provide at least a few more decades of use. We have very well restored the wood by applying new veneer where necessary. The chairs are now very smooth as we sanded and varnished them twice afterward. There is a broken hook at the back but it is barely visible as you can see in the photos. They are ready for the future and ready to be installed. The structure is still completely intact and functional. The minor repairs are visible but contribute to the circular idea of caring for objects and making them beautiful again. (The price is already very good so no further negotiation...) Dimensions. Width: 51 cm. Height: 76 cm.
